WHAT DO THE SCHEDULES OF A DRUG HAVE TO DO WITH THE LAW?

are different schedules for different drug types and the seriousness of possessing them with out a RX or selling them?

Public Comments

  1. schedule 4 = drugs requiring prescription schedule 8 = drugs of addiction (opiates etc) schedule 2 = over the counter drugs schedule 3 = pharmacy only drugs (but don't require a prescription) schedules 1, 5,6,7 = poisons
  2. The schedule is designed to identify the medicinal use of drugs vs. the potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs have the least medical value, and the highest potential for abuse. Schedule V drugs have a high medical value, and low potential for abuse. Possession of Schedule I drugs carry the most severe penalty.
