Why is marijuana Schedule 1, but Methamphetamine and Fentanyl (Slipknot bassist OD on that, 5x potency to heroin) Schedule 2 (available on prescription)?

1. There are two considerations given when classifying a drug: Potential for abuse, and legitimate medical use. If it is available by prescription, then it has a legitimate medical use and will be classified lower. Yes, some states recognize medicinal marijuana, but the schedules are determined by the federal government, not the state.
